Fletchers Engineering supports Salford in new Youth Zone partnership

Fletchers Engineering becomes the latest confirmed supporter for the new Salford Youth Zone.

Fletchers Engineering have committed to a five-year patronage agreement supporting Salford’s new Youth Zone, SYZ.

This pledge will see the engineering services provide essential contributions to the construction and early development of the Youth Zone, as well as the benefit of their leading expertise and industry experience.

Fletchers Engineering started as a small, family enterprise, forged from a strong history of engineering skill and knowledge in the Fletcher’s home in Salford. Their work first concentrated on serving the needs of schools in the local area.

This commitment to community support and building a better future for the next generation still endures more than 40 years later, with this partnership with SYZ set to help provide thousands of young people in Salford with somewhere safe to go, something positive to do and someone trusted to talk to.

Fletchers Engineering first teamed up with SYZ in April to complete a sponsored 10km walk across the city. The fundraiser included an exciting trip to see Salford City FC play at the Peninsula Stadium and raised an impressive £3165 for the Youth Zone.

Speaking further on the growth of the partnership, Steve Fletcher, shared: “At Fletchers Engineering, we believe in the power of community. We are proud to be contributing to the creation of a safe haven for Salford’s youth – a place where they can find support, engage in positive activities, and forge meaningful connections. Together, we can make a real difference in our community in support of our young people.”

Amanda Coverdale, Senior Philanthropy Manager for SYZ, reflected on the important role of businesses in supporting Youth Zones, stating: “Businesses have a unique opportunity to make a lasting difference by becoming Patrons of Youth Zones. Through their support, businesses can contribute to the well-being and development of young people, as well as their local community, helping to create a brighter future for the city of Salford.”

Founder Patrons’ contributions combine to create 70% of the annual running costs of a Youth Zone, and the support will provide a foundation to develop and maintain excellent services for young people which match the quality of the building.

With planning approval granted in 2023, the construction of SYZ, located on Belvedere Road in Pendleton, began at the end of January 2024 and is set to open in Summer 2025.

SYZ promises to usher in a new era for the city’s youth, offering educational, recreational, and developmental opportunities in a safe and inclusive environment. The purpose-built Youth Zone will open seven-days-a-week, with more than 20 activities on offer every session for young people aged 8-19, or up to 25 for those with an additional need or disability.

Beyond its direct benefits to young people, SYZ also holds immense promise for the broader community. With mentoring schemes, job opportunities, and volunteering initiatives, SYZ is poised to become a vibrant hub of activities that will enhance community cohesion and contribute to the overall growth of Salford.
